Time for Some Rest

Matthew 11:28-30

‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

Yes, it is time for some rest.

When I took part in a silent retreat last year at the monastery, this verse kept coming up in my prayers.  It still comes up a year later.   A lot has happened since then.  Too much to go into here, but know that I will be focusing on this scripture this week.  After a challenging six months, I have this week off.  I will be going up to Maine to spend a few days on the coast. (thanks to a wonderful invitation) and basking in the glow of quiet, waves, rocks and lighthouses.

My camera will come with me as well as my journal and the yoke of God’s love. I have been blessed to receive the gift of this trip, and am truly thankful. I am also blessed to receive the gift of this scripture and the love that comes with the gentle humbled heart of Jesus Christ.  There are many days and nights I forget that Jesus has invited me to let go of my burdens and rest my soul in the lap of His presence.   How I wish I could take the yoke of Christ each time I need the burdens lifted from my heart.  I pray that this time away will give what I need to do just that.

Yes, it is time for some rest.
